  1. Philip Wesley Said,

Listening to the podcast currently and getting a pretty good laugh at your “75%” remark. Video Game Keynotes have changed drastically since they started televising them… I think you’re under the mistaken representation of video game conventions like CES, and E3 that was represented by the gaming rags in the 1990′s…. I’ll have to let you know in detail how hilariously wrong you are on that. Although currently, I am setting up my camera and hunting for hook up equipment to do a video about the comments on the Wii Virtual Console VS the NES. The example I use is Super Mario Bros. and I think you would have to be kinda blind to not notice the differences……

  2. Philip Wesley Said,

Oh, Sands of Destruction is good, you have to get Dark Spire, Etrian Odyssey, Etrian Odyssey 2, Izuna the unemployed ninja 1 & 2, Super Dodge Ball DS, Nostalgia, and a bunch of other awesome stuff. :-) Henry Hatsworth is good if you don’t have it yet.

    Getting to the iPad discussion.

  3. Philip Wesley Said,

iPad + emulation… you know you’re thinking about it. It just needs some sort of docking controller…..

  4. Frank Said,

The games look great on a cheaper solution called the Retro Duo or FC Twin. These are third party consoles that play NES and SNES games at an enhanced resolution via S-Video. Victor and I have personally played these on an HDTV and the games look awesome and just as good as they do on the Wii. Only difference is 150 bucks plus the cost of games on the VC. VC games hit the roof at 8 bucks US there but here they hit the roof at 10-15 bucks per game which I can get legit carts for the same price and still be able to transfer my games to another person’s house to play them. A wii does allow you to move ur VC games to an SD card but not play them on another person’s Wii because THE GAMES ARE DRM’ED! Which I understand but even the PS3 will let me DL my games and share them on another person’s console legally and I heard getting past that “5 downloads per game” can easily be bypassed with a simple call to Sony Support.
Anyhow, I also have a huge problem not only dishing out 200 bucks for a Wii which to me is honest to god a Fisher Price console that collects dust in between first party titles with a few exceptions here and there, but I can’t justify spending 200 bucks on one just to play retro games. I went through this Dilemma before selling my Wii for a Fully backwards compatible PS3 but when i lookd at my stack of original NES and SNES games I though “Fuck this! Why should I pay for them again?!”. As I said, up here the VC games are more expensive and so are Video games in General despite the fact we live about 2 hours from the damn border. Anyhow, these third party consoles (which I think are ok to own as long as u own an original) will upscale the games and does an EXCEPTIONALLY good job with SNES games. On top of that you can plug your original SNES controllers into the device for that retro feel.

Who the hell still uses RF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? LOL!

These consoles cost about 50 bucks after shipping (Canadian) and can be purchased domestically up here. Much better than spending 200 bucks for a Wii plus the cost of games, given they are available in the Region. Again, rare games are an exception.

I can understand the convenience of having a stand alone consoles with all the games playing straight off an SD card with an easy peasy menu to play them with and is great for someone who does not own the original games. I admit that. But to the true retro Connoisseur (like us) this is unacceptable and not a cost effective solution. There is nothing more I dislike that spending money for something I already own. Plus I find the nostalgia is not the same without holding the original controller and looking at the console itself and having that “Blast from the past” moment you get by seeing Mario slide down a pole for a bonus at World 1-1 (ha ha haaa Multiple entendre) which mind u I did not enjoy as much on the wii.

Plus then comes the burden of having to spend money for a wii classic controller or a classic controller mod via retroUSB to use an NES and SNES pad on the wii. again, not cost effective.

I actually played Izuna (both) which are not bad but not my bag as they did not hold my interest. Hatsworth is awesome.

Ipad + emulation sounds good but the thought of Jailbreaking an ipad and waiting for someone to make a good emulator who does not want to charge for it via blackmarket placesusing Cydia sounds like a pain in the ass and I would personally not do it. I would like to see something like an ipad run on Android which would be an open system where you can load emus and roms with much more ease than on an ipad. It;s already a huge pain int eh ass to do it on and iphone which I stopped jailbreaking as it is too much of a pain in the ass. But just knowing the pain from the iphone… nah… wouldn’t go through it!

I have never attended a keynote nor E3 but what I get from the crowd reaction during Nintendo keynotes I think that answers what kind of people are there watching it. Which is insignificant because audience at home is far more vast who actually don’t mind dishing out 10 bucks for a piece of plastic which I am sure one can recreate using Lego. Just saying.,…

  6. Philip Wesley Said,

I will try splitting this up then…

The NES Slim only outputs in RF. Also, I had written a longer bit explaining keynotes and why the “audience” you see on TV only represents about 10% to 15% of the people that actually attend E3. But Firefox crashed on me before I could finish it. Anyhow, I guess I could do a quick run through of it.

  7. Philip Wesley Said,

Oh, the majority of the media that is there are from magazines, news channels, and retail rags. The majority of the other people there are either working booths pitching games for publishers, Koreans trying to sell their Cell Phone games, your local Radio Shack Manager who is there to drink and price units for retail. It’s not nearly as “fan oriented” as G4 makes it out to be. It’s more or less clumps of people in suits talking to other clumps of people while hyper college bloggers run past them with cameras and people stand in lines. Oh, and you pay about $8 for a slice of pizza. The keynote is interesting though, but -until recently- those were aimed at two groups: Investors, and Retail Purchasers. Nintendo is really the only company still following the older keynote style. Which is why they generally land more Retail Purchase Orders, and Investors. The added bonus is that footage from their keynotes ends up on Good Morning America, Fox & Friends, SKY TV, and the morning shows now.

Yes! This is in fact, my FAVORITE trilogy of old school, side scrolling Beat ‘em Ups for the SNES. I had very fond memories of these games. I remember the first time I played it and that was actually “Rushing Beat Ran Fukusei Toshi” which of course I met initially as “Brawl Brothers”. I played this with my Friend Ariel (yes that’s HIS name) and I must say it is the most fun I had playing a 2 player game since Street Fighter II at the time. Now I do not recall if I played “Rival Turf” aka “Rushing Beat” first. I also do not recall when I played “The Peace Keepers” aka “Rushing Beat Syura”, maybe 1995 or so. Anyways, but it was not until many years later in the late 90s that I found out these were a trilogy in Japan. I played “Brawl Brothers” until 2002 on my SNES straight from 1995 when I acquired it from the same Blockbuster that I rented it from initially for $14.99. I bought it with my allowance which was paid as a lump sum as we were in Germany that summer for over a month so I collected my weekly allowance (which I had forgotten about cause of all the summer fun) and saw it in the used games bin and bought it without thought. I do not know where this original purchased game is (nor my Street Fighter 2 Turbo) but once I do I will make a video on these “Lost Games”. As there are about 3 of them. Anyhow here is the Video! Enjoy!!!!

PS I know that I spelled the URL wrong. I’ve since re-edited this vid but did not re-up it as it has been embedded in some other sites I still need to find.

Rushing Beat Trilogy!!!
